University Executive Controller
Leonard F. Zinnanti is the University Executive Controller for The City University of New York (CUNY). In his current role, he is responsible for overseeing and managing university-wide Accounting and Financial Reporting, Treasury and Cash Management Services, Revenue Collection, CUNYís Investment Pools, and the Procurement functions as well as its Supplier Diversity (M/WBE and SDVOB) program on behalf of the Universityís central administration and its 25 campuses.
Mr. Zinnanti has had a distinguished career both in the public service and cultural world spanning a career of over 40 years. He was appointed University Executive Controller in August 2013, after serving as Chief Operating Officer of Hunter College at CUNY. For 10 years, Mr. Zinnanti directly managed Hunter Collegeís $160 million operating budget and was responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Hunter College, include Facilities, Public Safety, Human Resources, Continuing Education, Information Technology, and other key administrative departments. At Hunter College, Mr. Zinnanti provided strategic leadership to implement the CUNY Compact at Hunter, while sustaining and enriching campus facilities and administrative services to meet the demands of the student body and faculty during a period of continuous growth in enrollment.
Prior to working at Hunter College, Mr. Zinnanti served as the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer for the New York Philharmonic for almost 3 years. In that post, he was responsible for overseeing the institutionís operating and capital budgets, the Investment Pool, and all administrative support functions, including Information Technology and Human Resources.
Mr. Zinnanti served multiple City of New York mayoral administrations for 28 years at the New York City Office of Management and Budget, rising to the position of Deputy Director. In this position he supervised and managed over 100 analysts in the review and budgetary control function for a majority of the Cityís agencies including Criminal Justice, Environmental Protection, Parks, Public Safety, Sanitation, Transportation, Libraries and Cultural Institutions.
Mr. Zinnanti holds a BA degree from Merrimack College, a MPA degree from SUNY Albany, and a certificate in Higher Education Management from Harvard University.
