Microsoft Office 365 for Education (For Faculty and Staff)

The City University of New York is providing Microsoft Office 365 for Education to all active faculty and staff via the Microsoft Office in Education program. The license remains active until you leave the University, at which point it will be in read-only mode and you will be prompted to pay a license fee to Microsoft or stop using Microsoft Office 365 for Education.

The Microsoft Office 365 for Education suite includes OneDrive for Business, SharePoint, Yammer, and Skype for Business, as well as widely used Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the downloadable Office ProPlus suite. It also includes 1 TB of storage per user.

Please review the Acceptable Use of Microsoft Office 365 for Education Policy before storing, synching, and/or sharing data in any of these cloud services. The following table summarizes what data can and cannot be stored so data is protected from unauthorized access.

  • Trade secrets, intellectual property or information that may be relevant for the creation of a University, faculty or student owned patent
  • Research data under a restricted data use agreement or other IRB data and relevant restrictions that do not explicitly permit cloud storage
  • Passwords and access codes

  • Email and other communications regarding internal matters not been specifically approved for public release
  • Proprietary financial, budgetary or personnel information not explicitly approved by authorized parties for public release
