You must save your data to your local device, USB device or OneDrive to avoid permanent loss of data.
  2. You may work continuously within the CUNY Virtual Desktop for up to 8 hours. Please note, sessions inactive for more than 20 minutes will automatically log off.
  3. Use your CUNYfirst ID followed by “@login.cuny.edu”, and your CUNYfirst password to log in to the CUNY Virtual Desktop.

I forgot my password, how do I change it for the CUNY Virtual Desktop?

Navigate to the CUNYfirst Log-in page, https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu, select “Forgot your password?” and complete the steps for changing your password. Approximately 20 minutes after changing your CUNYfirst password, you will be able to log in to the CUNY Virtual Desktop.

Does the CUNY Virtual Desktop restrict the websites I can access?

Access is available for any part of the CUNY.edu website, including your campus website and Blackboard. Additional sites may be added based on special requests.

What do I do if my computer freezes?

If your local device freezes, reboot it and log back into the CUNY Virtual desktop. Remember to do so within 20 minutes to prevent a loss of data.

What should I do if my virtual desktop freezes?

The CUNY Virtual Desktop was built in a rugged, resilient environment that reduces the risks of a freeze in your virtual desktop. However, in a rare situation that your virtual desktop session freezes, all data will be lost. You can contact the help desk to clear the session thereby allowing you to log back in, or wait 20 minutes and the session will automatically be cleared and you can start a new session. Remember in this situation, all unsaved data will be lost so it’s important to save your data locally as you’re working.

Can I save my data to the C: drive on the virtual desktop?

No. All data in the virtual desktop session will be lost 20 minutes after you disconnect.

Is there a time limit for me to work in the CUNY Virtual Desktop?

What happens if I am disconnected from the CUNY Virtual Desktop?

As long as you reconnect and log in within 20 minutes, no data will be lost. You will be able to resume work. However, if your CUNY Virtual Desktop session remains inactive for more than 20 minutes, all unsaved data will be lost.

What happens if I leave my work open and inactive in the CUNY Virtual Desktop to take a break?

If you leave your work open and inactive, please return and continue to work in the environment within 20 minutes. If you are automatically disconnected you must reconnect within 20 minutes (Save your data frequently when using the CUNY Virtual Desktop, especially if using the CUNY Virtual Desktop for an extended period of time and/or updating your work product significantly).

How can I print from the CUNY Virtual Desktop?

Printers connected to your local device (computer, tablet, etc.) are used for printing. In most applications, you can also direct your output to a PDF file and save to your attached USB storage.
