CUNY Enrollment Management Conference
Friday, June 5, 2015
John Jay College of Criminal Justice
524 W. 59th Street
New York, New York 10019
This University-wide event’s purpose is to facilitate conversations and to share strategies across functional areas as we move closer to full implementation of our CUNYfirst system. Representatives from student and administrative services under the BARFITA (Bursars, Admissions, Registrars, Financial Aid, Information Technology, Institutional Research and Academic Advisement) umbrella are encouraged to participate.
It has been almost 10 years since CUNY began the process of procuring a new student information system. I recall a speech by Ron Spalter at Baruch College where he emphasized the changes to business practices which would take place because of the new system. In reflection, I doubt even Ron understood the magnitude of his words.
Many of us have been around a long time and knew how our legacy systems worked in the college offices. For instance, if a student had a hold on their record we knew where to send them to have it removed. Enter CUNYFIRST! Many, if not most, of us are having difficulty figuring out how the systems work in our own office never mind the office down the hall. The purpose of this conference is to acquaint staff-members with the systems and business practices of the offices we interact with, as well as learn a little bit more about your own system. A successful conference attendee will interact with their peers from other colleges and take back to their college ideas about possible changes to their business practices.
The goal is to make attendees more well- rounded and facilitate collaboration with other college offices. The result will be better service to our students!
