New York State’s world-class colleges and universities – including the City University of New York (CUNY) and State University of New York (SUNY) campus systems, as well as private institutions – serve as the framework of the START-UP NY program. Under the program, businesses have the opportunity to operate tax-free for 10 years by occupying previously vacant, underutilized land and space on or near college campuses.

The business-academia partnerships are beneficial for both companies and colleges: Businesses not only operate tax-free for 10 years, but also gain access to industry experts and advanced research laboratories; and colleges and universities build their own business communities, which provide their students and faculty with access to innovative, real world business experiences.
