The Role of the OLS
The Office of Library Services (OLS) at the CUNY Central Office is under the leadership of Robert Maruca, Associate University Provost for Planning, and provides centralized services to all 31 CUNY Libraries supporting the University’s 25 campuses and 100+ research centers and institutes. The OLS staff, managed by Interim University Dean of Libraries and Information Systems, Greg Gosselin, works with campus librarians and other academic units to coordinate and enhance library services in support of CUNY’s mission. OLS’s service portfolio includes the acquisition, licensing, and management of electronic, print and digital collections; technical services including cataloging and metadata management; as well as institutional repository management. OLS facilitates global discovery of and access to CUNY Libraries’ expansive collections and CUNY’s scholarly record.
We offer leadership and advocacy/outreach development; as well as consultation for bibliographic practices, resource sharing, digital initiatives and issues in scholarly communications, open access, and copyright. OLS also sponsors and coordinates 22 committees/workgroups, collaborative forums for the University’s library community to come together in functional groups for discussion and sharing best practices. The office collects and analyzes data on the utilization and impact of library collections and services, coordinates assessment practices, and represents the libraries to CUNY’s Central Office, the Office of Academic Affairs and CUNY’s Interim Chancellor, Vita Rabinowitz. We also cultivate and establish avenues of collaboration and partnerships with CUNY technology/academic units and institutional stakeholders, as well as external agencies, to align goals, resources, and values of CUNY Libraries with those of the University.
As a service desk organization, OLS partners with CUNY CIS to provide technical/functional support services and best-practices guidance to CUNY Libraries’ 800+ faculty and staff for all centrally managed library technology services. These services are delivered in part by technology we select, develop, implement, maintain, and optimize for CUNY Libraries: CUNY Catalog, OneSearch, Academic Works, and other associated applications including 360 Link, bX, SFX, Drupal, and CORAL, among others. Our goal as a services and support provider is to deliver the highest level of service into every interaction with CUNY faculty, staff, and students.
The Office of Library Services staff are located at Central Office locations, 205 East 42nd Street and 555 West 57th Street, and at Baruch College, 151 East 25th Street.
