Rules and Procedures for Professional Reassignments in the Libraries
For research, scholarly writing and other recognized professional activities which enhance the recipient’s contribution to the University. A goal of fifty such reassignments per academic year is contemplated. For the purpose of attaining that goal reassignments shall be apportioned among the colleges in accordance with the size of the eligible staff at each institution, except that each college shall be assigned at least one reassignment.
Staff serving in the libraries in the titles of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Instructor, or Lecturer.
Up to five calendar weeks or twenty-five work-days based upon a five day per week schedule within the period September 1 through August 31. The reassignment may be for non-consecutive days if the nature of the project so requires.

An eligible staff member may submit to the departmental personnel and budget committee a proposal that shall detail the research, writing, or other professional activity to the undertaken with the dates for which the reassignment is requested. The application shall set forth the manner in which the reassignment will enhance the recipient’s contribution to the University and the manner in which the proposal will further the recipient’s professional development in the library field.
Each application for reassignment shall be subject to the approval of the departmental personnel and budget (P&B) committee(s) of the library department in which the individual serves, and the college-wide personnel and budget committee(s). It shall be understood that the reassignment will not require an additional expenditure of funds for replacement or other costs.
c. Schedule for Applying
Each college shall establish a deadline for applications and a schedule for the appropriate approvals in order to meet the deadlines for notification to the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and University Provost, which are:
June 1 – for leaves requested to be taken between September 1 and January 31
December 1 – for leaves requested to be taken between February 1 and August 31
A report of the activities undertaken while under reassignment shall be submitted to the President of the College, with copies to the Chief Librarian and to the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and University Provost within two months after completion of the reassignment. *
