The Office of Policy Research (OPR) provides support to CUNY’s Chancellery on key policy questions, including admission standards, developmental education, transfer patterns, persistence and completion trends, financial aid, the economic impact of CUNY, identification of peer colleges for benchmarking, and the transition from high school to college. A mainstay of OPR’s research agenda is college access. It works closely with researchers and program staff from the NYC DOE, the Research Alliance for New York City Schools, and Graduate NYC to share data, produce research on college readiness and the transition to college, inform policy, and disseminate information. The office has also built partnerships with researchers at other institutions and agencies to maximize the use of CUNY’s rich data resources to address questions of interest to CUNY and to the broader higher education policy community. OPR also hosts the well-attended higher education seminar series, in which nationally prominent experts discuss their research on issues relevant to CUNY. Finally, the office provides technical assistance to CUNY administrators, staff, faculty, and policy-makers.
