As a CUNY TechWorks college partner, Kingsborough Community College (KCC) will develop a four-course Web Development and UI/UX training program. Aligned to KCC’s Graphic Design degree program, our CUNY TechWorks’ program will include JavaScript and HTML5/CSS programming, design and layout concepts, user interface aesthetics, and multimedia integration.

Focused on developing real world, “hands-on” technical skills and competencies, Kingsborough’s user experience training will incorporate both project-based learning approaches and common industry practices throughout its courses. The training will culminate with a portfolio development practicum where students will have an opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge to employers. As students complete the program, KCC will offer an array of support services to help connect them to internship and career opportunities.

Different Job Opportunities

Work Environment

One-in-three designers are part of the “gig economy”. These freelancers work for clients on short-term, temporary contracts or projects and are usually hired to complete a single job. They may work out of their homes or offices, and may even visit clients on-site, depending on the needs of the project. For designers working in office environments, working hours are typically more traditional.

Labor analyst predict that between 2012 and 2022, web developer jobs will grow by 34% to 8.2K jobs—nearly three times the citywide average of 13% over the same period. This includes web designers, although the distribution of job creation for developers and designers is less clear.
