Dear Friends:

It is with great pleasure that I welcome the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York (CUNY) to The Bronx for its borough hearing.

The borough of The Bronx is home to three colleges of the City University of New York: Bronx Community College, Lehman College and Hostos Community College. These three colleges have changed the lives of thousands of students by giving them a first-rate education, and as borough president I am proud of the work they are doing in The Bronx.

I would also like to applaud the work of all the colleges within the entire CUNY system. I know firsthand of the excellent education CUNY provides having received degrees from both LaGuardia Community College and Lehman College. The CUNY system not only provided me the academic access to progress but also exposed me to a rich diversity of people and cultures whose profound impact on me has endured until present day.

I also want to take a moment to thank outgoing Chancellor James B. Milliken for his years of service and for being a strong partner with my office. I would also like to thank the entire CUNY Board of Trustees for ensuring that the residents of The Bronx continue to have access to some of the finest learning institutions this country has to offer. I thank the entire CUNY family for your continued work and commitment.
