Dr. Antonio Pérez, President of Borough of Manhattan Community College since 1995, is a visionary, high-energy leader with 26 years of experience as a chief executive officer. Since coming to BMCC, he has dedicated himself to making the institution one that is recognized nationally for excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship, and service to students and the community.
The College serves over 24,000 students who enroll in 31 degree-granting programs. More than 10,000 students are enrolled in the College’s Adult and Continuing Education program. BMCC is distinguished by its number two ranking nationwide in awarding associate degrees to minority students.
Under the direction of Dr. Pérez, BMCC has built an extensive network of partnerships with the business community, meeting corporate needs by providing on-site training and the development of courses for employees at some of New York City’s largest companies.
Recognized by Crain’s New York as one of the City’s top 100 minority business leaders, President Pérez has served on the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation’s World Trade Center Memorial Committee. He has served as secretary of the board of directors of the Ralph Lauren Cancer Center, and sits of the boards of the Business Alliance for Downtown New York, National Museum of the American Indian, New York Simulation Center for Health Services and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. He is Vice President of the Greater New York Councils of Boy Scouts of America.
Since the September 11 attack on the nearby World Trade Center—which destroyed BMCC’s Fiterman Hall—Dr. Pérez has spoken widely on the topic of leadership. His presentations include The Inner Fabric of Leadership and Leadership In Crisis.
On August 27, 2012, President Pérez opened the new 14-story Fiterman Hall, reflecting an unprecedented public/private partnership, and reflecting Dr. Pérez’s commitment to high-achieving students from all walks of life, who are our city’s and our country’s future.
