Any individual to whom a CUNY college or school wishes to award an honorary degree must be vetted by the system’s central administration before being presented to the Board of Trustees for approval. Below are various tools to assist you in successfully submitting your candidate’s information to the central office in a timely manner. The Guide will explain the criteria for receiving an honorary degree, articulate the process and what information is required. It also contains sample resolutions to assist you in writing your own. Since honorary degree candidates are brought to the Board of Trustees’ Committee on Academic Programs, Policy, and Research (CAPPR) prior to being presented before the full Board, colleges and schools are advised to follow the schedule for submitting items for CAPPR to the Office of Program Review, Articulation and Transfer.
