Spring 2017 Funding Opportunity

The Application Period for Spring 2017 Funding is Now Closed

EligibilityCUNY Associate Professors who participated in both Spring 2017 sessions of the Moving from Associate to Full Professor workshop series are eligible to apply for funding to assist in their progress toward promotion to full Professor.

FundingEligible faculty may apply for two types of funding as indicated below.

  1. Course release ($4000 per course release) to be used in Fall 2017, Spring 2018 or Fall 2018. The course release must be used to make progress on a major research, scholarly or creative project that is relevant to the applicant’s promotion to full Professor and will be submitted or completed by December 31, 2018.
  1. Awards (between $500 and $1000) to support scholarly or creative activities that are relevant to the applicant’s promotion to full Professor and will be submitted or completed by December 31, 2018.

2016 Pilot

In response to the 2015 COACHE survey, during the spring 2016 semester, the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs pilot tested Moving from Associate to Full Professor, which included a workshop series and a funding opportunity.

Workshop Series

The workshop series addressed a broad range of practices related to promotion to full Professor. Separate workshop series addressed issues relevant to community college and senior college Associate Professors.

Funding Opportunity

Following the workshop series, participants had an opportunity to apply for funding aimed at helping them make progress toward promotion to full Professor. Over $51,000 in awards were made to support participants’ scholarly and creative activities.
