The William P. Kelly Research Fellowship Program

The Chancellor’s Research Fellowship Program has been renamed the William P. Kelly Research Fellowship Program in honor of CUNY’s former Interim Chancellor who established the program.

The William P. Kelly Research Fellowship Program aims to advance the research, scholarship and creative work of CUNY’s outstanding community college faculty.  Since its inception in 2014-15, the program has supported a broad range of faculty projects in the humanities, social and natural sciences and creative and performing arts.

The application period for 2018-2019 Fellowships is now closed

What:  The Chancellor’s Office anticipates awarding up to 20 fellowships for the 2018-2019 academic year.  Each fellowship comes with two three-credit courses of released time.

Who: All tenured, full-time community college faculty who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to research, scholarship and/or creative work are eligible to apply.  Tenure must be in effect by September 1, 2018 in order to be eligible for the 2018-19 fellowship.  Priority will be given to faculty who have not received this fellowship within the past two years.

When: The deadline for submissions was February 5, 2018 at 11:59pm

How: A complete application includes:

  1. A completed online application form
  2. A proposal of no more than five pages (single-spaced, 12 point font) describing a) the project for which you are seeking the fellowship, b) a plan for completing the proposed project, c) evidence that you have the necessary resources (other than released time) to complete the plan and, if relevant, have laid the necessary groundwork to start the plan (e.g., IRB approval already in place) and d) expected outcomes.  References are not included in the 5 page limit.
  3. A current vitae with evidence of an ongoing commitment to research, scholarship and/or creative work

 

Faculty committees will review all applications on the following dimensions:

  1. intellectual/academic/creative quality of the proposal (with relevant work cited)
  2. quality and specificity of the plan to complete the research/scholarship/creative work, including a realistic timeline and expected outcomes
  3. evidence that the candidate has the necessary resources (other than released time) to complete the plan and, if relevant, has laid the necessary groundwork to start the plan (e.g., IRB approval already in place)
  4. candidate’s record of research/scholarship/creative activity, including publications and grants
