About College Counseling Initiatives

Our two primary programs are a Counselor Professional Learning Community and College Bridge for All.

About the Counselor Professional Learning Community

The Counselor Professional Learning Community gives counselors the opportunity to continue their learning and develop their practice to inform their college advising with students. This is a space for College Counselors to share best practices, learn from each other, and build their knowledge of CUNY programs through expert presentations. We meet six times throughout the year and have 40+ counselors and college advisors participating.

About College Bridge for All

College Bridge for All aims to increase college enrollment by offering a student-centered approach to effective guidance by hiring and training a current college student — “College Coach” — to support graduating seniors at participating high schools to complete all steps to matriculate in post-secondary opportunities. We work in partnership with College Access for All at the DOE, serving approximately 12,000 graduating seniors across 85 high schools with 105 College Coaches.

The goals of College Bridge for All are to:

  1. Increase the number of NYC DOE graduates who immediately matriculate into college and academic support programs, with focus on ensuring strong-fit college choices.
  2. Utilize near-peer mentoring to support student success and matriculation, as well as to develop transferable professional and leadership skills in recent alumni through their work as College Coaches

Increase the school community’s capacity to provide high-quality college matriculation counseling while fostering collaborative practices and youth development culture school-wide
