Bronx Community College has served as the “Gateway to Success” for thousands of graduates who have gone on to earn bachelor’s degrees and/or pursue successful careers. Located on New York City’s highest natural peak, the College’s 43-acre campus provides an inspiring setting for learning, with tree-lined walks and spacious lawns.

Bronx Community College was founded in 1957 to meet the growing need for access to higher education in the borough of the Bronx. It was one of the original undergraduate colleges that joined together in 1961 to create The City University of New York. The College also extends itself to New York City’s economic, educational, and cultural institutions through partnerships with business and industry.

College Highlights

  • Students can choose from a wide range of associate degree and certificate programs. Programs in the health professions and technology are particularly popular. Programs unique to Bronx Community College include nuclear medicine, ornamental horticulture, and environmental technology.

  • The Hall of Fame for Great Americans is a New York landmark located on the BCC campus. Designed by the renowned architect Stanford White, the hall is a large open-air colonnade housing bronze portrait busts of the honorees. Founded in 1900, it is the nation’s original “Hall of Fame.”
  • At BCC’s Center for Teaching Excellence, faculty members at the College learn how to become better teachers by making more effective use of technology.


Bronx Community College awards associate in applied science, associate in arts, and associate in science degrees. In addition, certificates are awarded in a number of academic areas. Students can transfer from Bronx Community College to other colleges. BCC has secured various educational partnerships—joint degree programs, articulation agreements, and memorandums of understanding—with CUNY, SUNY, and private senior colleges.

Travel Directions


#4 to Burnside Avenue. Walk four blocks west to University Avenue, then turn right and walk one block north to the College. Shuttle bus service from the campus to the subway is available in the evening during the semester.


#3 (University Avenue) to 181st Street; #40/42 (Tremont Avenue Crosstown) to University Avenue; #36 (180th Street Crosstown) to University Avenue; #12 (Fordham Road Crosstown) stops at University Avenue, where it connects with the #3 bus.
