One of the Chancellor’s academic priorities is to increase CUNY students’ exposure to fine and performing arts—both in traditional arts courses and by infusing the arts into courses in other disciplines. In an effort to assist faculty who are interested in advancing this initiative by creating or modifying their courses, we seek to provide financial support to cover expenses incurred in the development of these new curricular models for arts education.
We anticipate supporting at least ten faculty applicants with grants up to a maximum of $2,500 each. Proposals will be reviewed on a competitive basis by a committee of faculty and central office administrators. The funds may not be used to cover course release time, but may be used for travel, research assistance, the purchasing of software or books, or other expenses that might be incurred in the development of courses. Awards may also be used for activities that are integrated into the newly created or modified courses, such as student attendance at performances or visits to cultural institutions.
The submission deadline is February 6, 2017. Awards will be announced in March 2017 and funding will be provided shortly thereafter. Awardees will be expected to offer the course in the 2017-2018 academic year and. Submit a budget report and a course syllabus by the beginning of the Fall 2017 semester.
